HANOVERTON - Mr. and Mrs. John Chestnut Sr. celebrated their 50th anniversary on July 31 with a vow renewal ceremony at their home. Their sons, daughter-in-laws and grandchildren participated in the ceremony. The ceremony was attended by family and friends.
The former Phylis Rankin, daughter of the late David and Mary (Walker) Rankin, New Waterford; became the bride of John Chestnut, son the late Thomas and Betty (Corfee) Chestnut, Hanoverton; on July 29, 1960 at the New Waterford United Methodist Church. The Rev. H.L. Strawn officiated the ceremony.
Mr. Chestnut graduated from United Local in 1959 as part of the first graduating class. He has owned and operated his own construction company for 40 years. Currently he is running the company with his sons, Mark and Chris Chestnut.

Mrs. Chestnut graduated from New Waterford/Fairfield High School in 1959 as part of its first graduating class. She retired from the Hanoverton Post Office after 21 years as a rural mail carrier.
The couple have five sons: John (Kim) Chestnut Jr., Rayland; Mark (Diane) Chestnut, Chris (Lora) Chestnut, both of Hanoverton; Mike (Sue) Chestnut, Augusta; and James (Beth) Chestnut, New Waterford. They also have 18 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.
