65th year for Salem couple

SALEM - Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Rea Jr., Superior Avenue, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Oct. 11. To mark the occasion their children and their spouses will host a catered family dinner on Oct. 9 at the Salem First Friends Church.

The former Virginia Bartges married Samuel Rea Jr. on Oct. 11, 1945 at the Salem First Friends Church. The Rev. Robert Mosher performed the ceremony.

Mr. Rea retired from Salem Community Hospital in 1984 as the maintenance supervisor. He also worked as a builder, developing the Rea Drive area. He was a plant manager for the Sterling Salem Corporation, and a plant engineer for Standard Transformer Company, Warren. A World War II veteran, he served with the First Infantry Division.

Mrs. Rea retired as a registered nurse from Salem Community Hospital in 1984.

Both are active members of the Salem First Friends Church.

The couple have five children, Dr. and Mrs. Lance (Joanne) Duvall, Georgetown, S.C.; Dr. and Mrs. Jack (Celesta) Rea, Hong Kong; Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Marsha) Hodgson, and Mr. and Mrs. Daniel (Mary Kay) Rea, all of Salem; and Dr. and Mrs. Adrian (Lisa) Halverstadt, Haviland, Kan. They also have 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
