Even the smallest elections are important

May 1, 2011
Morning Journal News

Tuesday's primary Election Day will be a quiet one in Columbiana County.

Only three towns - East Liverpool, Salem and Leetonia - will feature races and they will all be among Democratic candidates.

East Liverpool has two Democrats vying for the nomination for mayor and two Democrats seeking the auditor nomination. In Salem, two Democrats are vying for the nomination to run for mayor in the fall and in Leetonia three Democrats are vying for two council seats.

Voters in the Salem and United school districts will decide on levies and police levies will be considered in Salineville, Perry Township and Wellsville. East Liverpool voters will also vote on library and cemetery levies. Road levies and electric aggregation issues round out the rest of the issues throughout the county.

Less than half the polling places will be open for this election. If your's isn't one of them, you get a break on this round. If it is open, however, be sure you get out and cast your ballot between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. The survival of our democracy depends on the participation of the governed.
