BEAVER TOWNSHIP - Robert E. Maher, age 83, of Beaver Township, passed away at 2:15 a.m. Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Hospice House, Poland following an extended illness. Mr. Maher, the son of James and Dorothy (Newhouse) Maher, was born on August 13, 1928 in Cleveland, OH.
Robert was a graduate of Metropolitan High School in Los Angeles, CA. Following high school he became a Sergeant in the U.S. military serving in the Korean War.
Mr. Maher retired from a professional truck driving company that was self-owned and operated in Akron, OH. Prior to retirement he had worked at Y.R.C. formally known as Yellow Roadway. He was also a member of the St. Jude Catholic Church of Columbiana.
Robert is survived by his wife, Lillian M. (Petsche) Maher, whom he married March 9, 1950. Survivors also include three daughters; Laurie Maher and Linda Maher of Fullerton, CA, and Lisa Maher of La Habra, CA, four sons; Rob Maher of La Habra, CA, Jeff (Louise) Maher of Wadsworth, OH, Kevin Maher of Houston, TX, and Jim (Marion) Maher of La Habra, CA. Survivors also include two sisters; Mary Alice (Frank) Boehnlein of Independence, OH and Kathleen (George) Ropchock of Vermillion, OH and ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Robert was preceded in death by one son; Bruce Maher and two brothers; James Maher and his twin brother Richard Maher.
Friends may call Sunday, January 22, 2012 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home, Columbiana. A private internment service for the family will be held at Ritman Memorial Gardens.
