Former Beaver superintendent was a leader district needed

February 16, 2012
Morning Journal News

Congratulations to the Beaver Local Board of Education, staff members and fiscal commission for leading the school district out of financial emergency.

The school district was placed in fiscal emergency by the state in February of 2010 when a deficit of $1million was projected in the five-year forecast.

The Financial Planning and Supervision Commission formed two years ago to help balance the budget, will be officially disbanded during its final meeting Tuesday.

District Treasurer Robert Barrett commended the board and staff for their work and sacrifices made in getting the district's financial house in order. Barrett also had high praise for former Superintendent Sandra DiBacco.

Although much of DiBacco's tenure at Beaver Local was surrounded by controversy, Barrett said, "Without her guidance and the guidance of the fiscal commission, we probably wouldn't have met this goal in two years."

Sometimes making tough decisions, even if they are the right ones, doesn't win many friends for the administrators making them. We believe this was the case with DiBacco and we're glad Beaver Local had a tough leader to bring them through this crisis.
