BYESVILLE - The Edison boys and girls track teams experienced the highs and lows of the postseason Thursday.
Edison competed at the Ohio Division II Eastern District Track Meet at Meadowbrook High School, and the Wildcats qualified for the finals in nine events to be held today back at Meadowbrook. Also, Edison's Kyle Minger and Shaniah Carpenter qualified for the regional tournament next week in Athens.
Minger qualified for the regional meet by finishing fourth in the high jump (5-08), and Carpenter qualified by finishing fourth in the pole vault (8-0).
Minger qualified for the district finals by finishing first in the 400 (51.1).
Also for the boys, JD Howell qualified for the finals by finishing eighth in the 110 hurdles (17.97).
The Edison girls qualified for the finals in seven events.
Ashley Borsch qualified in the 100 hurdles, the 300 hurdles and she was a part of the school's 4x10 relay team, which also qualified. Borsch finished fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.01), and she was third in the 300 hurdles (49.75). Borsch was joined on the 4x1 team by Bethanie Bube, Kylie Long and Nhung Tran. The foursome finished third with a time of 52.31.
Bube qualified for the finals in the 200 by placing eighth with a time of 28.71, and she was a member of Edison's qualifying 4x400 relay team. Bube was joined on the team by Long, Kaitlyn Turachek and Kaylinn Drabick. The foursome finished seventh with a time of 4:40.28.
Also individually, Tran finished fourth in the 100 (13.11), Katelyn Pollock finished fifth in the 400 (1:04.12) and Allie Byrley placed sixth in the 100 hurdles (8.18).
On the downside, Edison's 4x200 relay team of Borsch, Pollock, Long and Tran was disqualified, and the team did not advance to the finals. Last year, the four girls qualified for the state meet in the event.
Overall, John Glenn leads the way on the boys' side with 26 points, Union Local is second with 21 points and Maysville is third with 20.5 points. Locally, Edison is in seventh place with 10.5 points.
On the girls' side, Maysville leads the way with 22.5 points, St. Clairsville is second with 18 points and Union Local is third with 17 points.
Locally, Edison is in seventh place with eight points.
