Two new permits sought

LISBON - Two more permits have been sought or issued to drill for shale gas in Columbiana County, bringing to the total to 40.

According to information from the county engineer's office, the new permits are for the following locations:

- Elkrun Township: Wallace property, accessible from Riffle Road and state Route 7. The applicant is Chesapeake Energy.

- Butler Township: Kiko property, accessible from McCann and Georgetown roads. The applicant is Sierra Resources.

The following is the list of permits by township: Butler, 5; Center, 2; Elkrun, 5; Fairfield, 2; Franklin, 2; Hanover, 7; Knox, 4; Madison, 2; Middleton, 4; Salem, 1; Unity, 2; Washington, 2; West, 2.

In some instances there is more than one well permit per site.

There were no new road-use maintenance agreements issued since the three approved at the June 20 meeting of county commissioners.
