Potters get in the swing

CRESTON - The East Liverpool golf team broke through by winning the Wooster Park Mazda Invitational on Monday.

The Potters had three of the top five golfers to win going away with a 303 at Hawk's Nest Golf Course.

Junior Blake Prince was the medalist with a 1-over-par 73.

Isaac Davidson tied for secnd with a 74 and Joey Cilone follwed with a 76. Rounding out the winning effort were Alex Watson with an 80 and Ryan Burson with a 97.

Taking second place in the 10-team tournament 12 shots behind East Liverpool was Sugarcreek Garaway with a 315. Galion was third at 325. Carrollton placed seventh at 364.

The Potters will host Clay Battelle (W. Va.) and Conotton Valley on Wednesday at Turkana.

Columbiana 155,

Leetonia 166

COLUMBIANA - Columbiana's golf team opened Inter-Tri County League lower tier play by beating Leetonia 155-166 on Monday at Valley.

Bruce Wiggins led the Clippers with a 37. He was followed by Nathan Garafalo's 39, Joe Munyon's 39 and Joe Lucci's 40.

For the Bears, Luke Janci had a 37, Josh Faulkner 40, Ian Stecker 41 and Corey Valentine 48.

Columbiana hosts McDonald on Wednesday.

East Palestine 173,

Lisbon 214

NEGLEY - East Palestine's golf team topped Lisbon 173-214 on Monday at the East Palestine Country Club.

For the Bulldogs, D.J. Bandy had a 42, Alec Dumbald 43, Ryen Kemp 44 and Phil Gerner 44.

For the Blue Devils, Avery Andric had a 46, Lucas Tolson 55, Jordan Rutecki 56 and Logan Kress 57.

East Palestine is 1-0.

Howland 160, Beaver Local 162

CALCUTTA - Howland edged Beaver Local 160-162 on Monday in an All-American Conference golf match at Beaver Meadows.

Andy Ames had a 38 to lead Howland.

For the Beavers, Hayden Moore shot a 39, Troy Hudson 40, Quinton Carr 40 and Emily Blaner 43.

Beaver Local is at East Palestine today.

Heartland 188, American Spirit 242

EAST LIVERPOOL -Heartland Christian captured a 188-242 victory over American Spirit Academy on Monday at Cedar Hills.

For the Lions, Nathan Sommers shot a 46, Brandon Crawford 47, Tyler Ogden 47 and Christian Sommers 48.

For the Warriors, Andrew Montgomery had 55, Noah Timms 58, David Fusco 64 and Lane Lopata 65.

American Spirit plays Lisbon and Crestview at Twin Springs today.
