Every employer who has ever been faced with more than one well-qualified person to fill a job knows that deciding which one is a difficult choice.
Such is the case with the two candidates for Columbiana County treasurer.
Democrat Linda Bolon of Columbiana and Republican Eldena Gearhart of Negley both seem equally capable of filling the post.
Both Bolon and Gearhart are skilled financial managers. Gearhart was the bookkeeper for Central Air Flight Training for 23 years at the Columbiana County Airport and also worked as credit manager for 15 years at Hall China Co. She also served as secretary/treasurer for the Columbiana County Airport Authority for 18 years.
Bolon worked with the Ohio auditors office and as county treasurer. She most recently served as state representative for Columbiana County before she was defeated by Craig Newbold in 2010. It was Bolons position she held before serving as state rep, however, that makes her the best qualified for this job.
Bolon served as county treasurer for six years, and during that time she stream-lined operations, and updated the office computer system She also came up with a user-friendly tax bill that shows property owners where their real estate taxes go.
While Gearhart seems well-qualified for this position, too, it is Bolon's prior experience in the same job is what makes us endorse Linda Bolon as Columbiana County treasurer.
