WELLSVILLE - Rhoda J. Leyda, 86, formerly of Campground Road, Wellsville, died on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 at Calcutta Health Care Center following an extended illness. She was born in Salineville, Ohio on June 2, 1926 and was a daughter of the late Homer and Ellen (Winters) Ludlum.
Living her entire life in this area, she received her LPN Certification in 1968 and worked at East Liverpool City Hospital for 20 years before her retirement in 1982. She was a 1944 graduate of Salineville High School and a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Wellsville.
Her husband, Frank H. Leyda, whom she married on May 7, 1944, died on May 22, 2009.
Surviving her are her two sons: Mark B. Leyda and his wife Diane of Brighton, Mich., and Frank Drew Leyda of Calcutta; two daughters: Sue Ellen Tanaka and her husband Dr. David of Durham, N.C. and Jean Rae Leyda of East Liverpool; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren as well as her dear friend and devoted caregiver Dorothy Morris of East Liverpool.
Besides her parents and husband, three sisters: Ruth Noles, Theda Madison and Marilyn DeFalco preceded her in death.
Services will be held at the Wellsville Chapel of Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Samuel Monte of the church officiating.
Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home in Wellsville on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m.
Following the committal service at the cemetery, family and friends will gather for food and fellowship at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
