Indians roll over Devils

SALINEVILLE - Luke Griffith tallied 29 points as Southern rolled over Lisbon 63-36 on Friday.

Jared Shilot and Kyle Woodward had 10 points and 11 rebounds each for the Indians, 1-0.

Southern led 20-12 after a quarter and 34-16 at the half.

J.J. Napierkowski added nine assists for the winners.

Josh Liberati had 16 points in his debut for the Devils. Josh Craig led the Devils on the boards with eight rebounds.

Southern is at Edison tonight, while Lisbon hosts Leetonia on Tuesday.

Southern won the jayvee game 55-27. Clayton Cunningham had 10 points for the Indians. Mike Evans had 10 for Lisbon.

Western Reserve 50, Crestview 42

BERLIN CENTER - After staying close in the first half, Crestview was outscored 18-6 in the third quarter as the Rebels went on to fall 50-42 to Western Reserve top open the season on Friday.

Robert Logan led the Rebels with 18 points and nine rebounds. Evan Nentwick had two steals, three assists and seven points and Collin Gilbert added two steals, three assists and eight points.

For Western Reserve, Nolan Snyder had 15 points and Dalton Korda scored 14.

Crestview won the junior varsity game 53-29. Eric Lloyd led the Rebels with 14 points.

Crestview travels to Columbiana on Tuesday.

CALCUTTA - Beaver Local jumped out to a 17-4 first-quarter lead on its way to a 78-56 season-opening win over Champion on Friday.

Troy Hudson led the Beavers with 22 points, five assists and seven rebounds. Jared Lyder added 17 points, five assists, seven rebounds and two steals, while Zack Mick grabbed eight rebounds, scored nine points and blocked a shot. Chase Hilliard scored 11 and had two steals.

COLUMBIANA -South Range opened its new campaign with a 47-41 victory over Columbiana on Friday.

Tyler Beverly had 14 points to lead the Raiders. Jake Arsuffi added 12 points, while Andrew Cullar had 10 points.

Kyle Bryan had 18 points for the Clippers.

COLUMBIANA - Glenn Hoffman had 23 points as Heartland Christian opened the boys basketball slate with a 54-35 win over Badger on Friday.

Jared Robinson added nine points and eight rebounds. Brandon Crawford chipped in six points, eight rebounds and six steals. Kyle Burgess had seven points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Heartland won the jayvee game 39-25. Durand Winnale had nine points for the Lions.

Heartland hosts Rootstown on Tuesday.

EAST PALESTINE - East Palestine dropped its opener 49-44 to Youngstown Christian on Friday.

Austen Reiser had 15 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks for the Bulldogs.

Steve Parker added 15 points.

East Palestine won the jayvee game 33-30. Colin Reidy had seven points for the winners.

East Palestine is at Leetonia today.
