EAST PALESTINE - A traffic accident on state Route 14 just outside village limits Thursday morning took out power for Ohio Edison customers and closed the road to traffic for more than nine hours.
The Lisbon Post of the Highway Patrol is handling the accident that happened at 10:18 a.m. As of press time a report was not made available, although a dispatcher said troopers were still on scene around 9:40 p.m. He also said the road would likely be closed to traffic another few hours.
He would not confirm whether anyone was seriously injured.
A photograph on the East Palestine Fire Department's Facebook page showed a red Chevrolet van overturned on its side against a heavily damaged tractor-trailer and a downed utility pole tangled in the wreckage.
The East Palestine police and fire departments also responded to the accident, and Police Chief Kevin Dickey diverted questions to the patrol Thursday evening.
