Nominations being accepted for hall of fame

EAST LIVERPOOL - The East Liverpool High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee is accepting nominations of individual for potential induction into the Hall of Fame. Provide names, year of graduation and all individual accomplishments that merit such recognition to any committee member or mail to ELHS Athletic Hall of Fame, PO Box 637, East Liverpool, Ohio 43920.

Youth basketball tournament being held

Applications are now available for the Hilltop Grade School Girls Basketball Tournament to be held Feb. 22 at Sherrard and Moundsville Middle School. There will be separate tournaments for 4th, 5th, & 6th grade girls. Each team will be guaranteed at least three games. The entry fee for all teams will be $75. Trophies will be awarded to the first and second place team in each division. All games will be played under middle school rules and all games will be officiated by certified officials. EL's Joey Holt returns to boxing ring Jan. 26

WEIRTON - Joey Holt will be returning to the boxing ring after scoring a KO in his professional debut at Mountaineer on Dec. 1. Holt, a 2004 East Liverpool graduate, will be fighting on Jan. 26 at the Millsop Center in Weirton against Roy Sanders. After his first fight, a first-round KO against Alan Moore (3-17) at 154 pounds, Holt will be moving up in weight. The fight against Sanders (1-1) will be contested at 163 pounds. Also scheduled to appear on the Weirton fight card is another East Liverpool graduate, Josh Stansbury and former Big Red football standout Angelo Magnone.

BTC Mixed Doubles League starts Wednesday

BOARDMAN -?Boardman Tennis Center is taking entries for the "B-C" Mixed Doubles League that will run from Wednesday through March 27, a 10-week season with 20 matches. Each team will play two opponents each night and play is Wednesdays from 8-9:30 p.m. Entry fee is $89 for BTC members and $109 for non-members. Deadline is Jan. 15. Forms may be picked up at the tennis center on Western Reserve Rd. For more information, call Jerry at 330-758-7400.

YMCA youth leagues announce registration

EAST LIVERPOOL - Registration is open for the East Liverpool Area YMCA winter sports ;eagues. Basketball leagues for kids ages 6-7, 8-9, and 10-12 available. Volleyball leagues are forming for beginners ages 8-9 beginners 10-14, intermediate 11-14 and advanced 12-14. Registration forms are available at the East Liverpool and Calcutta YMCA Program Centers and on the YMCA's website, www.ymcanet.org. For information, contact the East Liverpool YMCA at 330-385-0663.

BLHS Athletic HOF accepting nominations

CALCUTTA - The Beaver Local High School Athletic Hall of Fame is currently accepting nominations. Forms can be obtained at www.beaver.k12.oh.us/blhof/hall-fame.html or can be picked up at the BLHS office.

Annual OVAC youth wrestling clinic Saturday

WHEELING - The OVAC will host its annual free youth wrestling clinic Saturday. The clinic will be held on the OVAC championship mats of WesBanco Arena from 7:45-9 a.m. Registration will be held from 7:15-7:45 a.m. The clinic will be led by Branden Lee Hinkle, NCAA National Champion wrestler, US National Freestyle All-American and MMA participant. The clinic is open to boys and girls ages 5-13. Parents are required to have insurance and be present the day of the clinics to sign a waiver form. Brooke to honor '87 boys state championship

WELLSBURG - Brooke High School will honor the 1987 boys basketball state championship team on Feb. 5 against Weir High. Players, coaches or managers from that team are asked to contact coach Dave Reitter at 304-648-0162 or the high school athletic office.

Wellsville basketball boosters 5-6th tourney

WELLSVILLE - Wellsville basketball boosters are sponsoring a 5-6th grade boys and girls Roundball Tournament on Feb. 23-24 and March 2-3. The double elimination tournament will cost $125 per team (checks payable to Wellsville Basketball Boosters). Soccer academy tryouts being held

Softball signups to be held at Dunhams

CALCUTTA - Middle Beaver Girls Softball is looking for players ages 5-17. Signups will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Dunhams and from 1-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Dunhams. Signups will also be held from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 7-8 at Java Jo House.
