Historians want museum to look its best for the Rebs

LISBON - The Lisbon Historical Society would like your help in replacing the roof on the historical train station museum.

The train station was relocated to its current home off West Washington Street in 1986.

"That was when the current roof was put on. It's closing in on 30 years, and it's time to replace it," said society president Wendell Cole.

As a result, the historical society has embarked on a public fund-raising campaign to raise the $17,000 needed to put a new shingle roof on the train depot. Cole said this time they are going with a heavier-duty shingle that comes with a 50-year warranty.

The work is being done by Bob Crawford and scheduled to be completed by early July so the train depot will be ready for the 150th anniversary celebration of Morgan's Raid planned for July 28.

Cole said they are hoping to raise the entire amount through donations, and solicitation letters are in the process of being mailed to local businesses and residents asking them to "purchase" a bundle or squares of shingles with their donation. Larger donors will be recognized on a shingle to be hung outside the train station, and they will also receive automatic membership in the historical society.

Although the project is moving forward either way, Cole said they obviously would prefer to pay for it with donations rather than dip into their operating budget.

Donations can be mailed care of the Lisbon Historical Society, P.O. Box 191, Lisbon, Ohio, 44432.

For further information call Cole at 330-424-3267 or Gene Krotky at 330-424-9000.
