COLUMBIANA - Private services were held Friday, May 3 for Robert V. Wenderoth, 95, of Columbiana, who passed away surrounded by his family Wednesday morning at Salem Community Hospital.
He was born on Dec. 1, 1917 in Columbiana, the son of Arthur and Charlotte (Roller) Wenderoth.
Robert worked as Assistant Plant Engineer at Eljer Company in Salem for five years. He retired as product engineering manager from NRM Corp. in April 1981. He worked in the engineering department for 40 years.
He was on the faculty of Salem Trade School, where he taught math, drawing and blueprint reading for a number of years.
Robert was an 88-year member of First Methodist Church, a member of Allen Lodge No. 276, a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite of Youngstown, and a life member of American Legion Post 290.
He served on the village planning commission and the volunteer fire department, as well as the board of Home Savings and Loan Co. of Columbiana.
Robert was a proud Army World War II veteran, serving two and a half years in Europe, including France, Belgium, Holland and Germany, as well as Iran. He received two Bronze Stars for his efforts.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, the former Vivian Zimmerman, whom he married March 8, 1953; his daughter, Kathy Wenderoth of Columbiana; his son, Gary Wenderoth of Minnetonka, Minn.; and two grandsons, Daniel and Phillip.
Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard C. Wenderoth in 1999 and Gerald Wenderoth in 1923.
