Mary Aughinbaugh

CHESTER, WV - Mary "Kay" Thornburg Aughinbaugh, formerly of Maple Drive, Calcutta, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at the Stone Pear Pavilion. She was 85.

Born in Monaca, Pennsylvania, August 19, 1928, she was a daughter of the late George Herman and Elva Lillian Eaton Thornburg. A resident of this area most of her life, she was a member of the Monaca High School Class of 1946. She worked in various shoe stores through the years, including the former Sift's Shoe Store and Neal-Allen Shoe Store. She also worked at Commercial Decal at one time.

A member of the former First Baptist Church in East Liverpool, she enjoyed reading, playing cards, and watching some of her favorite shows on Animal Planet and the Food Network. While her children were young, she was a member of the Calcutta School PTO.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Clayton Aughinbaugh. Also preceding her in death was her son, Jeffrey W. Aughinbaugh, a brother, George Detmer, a sister-in-law Mildred Thornburg, and a nephew, Bruce Thornburg.

She is survived by her three sons, Ronald C. Aughinbaugh, and his wife Joni, of Calcutta, Gary L. Aughinbaugh, and his wife Cyndi, of Midlothian, Texas, and Todd A. Aughinbaugh of Calcutta.

There are four grandchildren, Kricket Aughinbaugh, Kelly Aughinbaugh, Kevin Aughinbaugh and Kristofer Aughinbaugh, along with eight great-grandchildren, Kira, Kyle, Katie, Clayton, Karsin, Kaitlyn, Madison, and Kristofer Eric, and one great-great-granddaughter, Adisyn.

Other survivors include a brother, Harry S. Thornburg, of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and a nephew, Jerry Thornburg of Basel, Switzerland.

Friends may visit Friday evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Rev. John Smith will conduct a funeral service at 4:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions in care of the Resident's Activities Fund, Stone Pear Pavilion, Fox Nursing Home, 125 Fox Lane, Chester, WV 26034.
