George M. Clendenning Sr. 79 passed away at his home on Thursday October 17 after a lengthy illness.
Having grown up in Chester, George was born in East Liverpool on September 14, 1944 to the late Arthur Oliver Clendenning Sr. and Bertha Melott Clendenning.
A proud Marine, George served his country in the Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion Post 736 in Glenmoor. Also, he a past grandmaster of the East Liverpool Masonic Lodge and he was a graduate of Oak Glen High School.
George was retired Boilermaker with local 154.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard and Chuck Clendenning.
He leaves in loving family including his wife Norma Jean Ours Clendenning at home, his sons, George M. Clendenning Jr. of Cleveland, OH; and Arthur J. (Tonia) Clendenning Sr. of Calcutta, his daughter, Melissa Alford of East Liverpool; his sister Naomi Hunt of Odessa, TX; his brothers, Arthur O. (Ann) Clendenning Jr. of Holiday, FL; Clarence (Janet) Clendenning of Naples, FL; Edwin (Gloria) Clendenning Sr. of Calcutta, and Richard Clendenning Sr. of Lisbon, and his grandchildren, Savannah, Arthur Jr., and Kayla Clendenning , and Dalton and Drake Alford.
Friends are invited to visit with the family at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Monday October 21 from 2-4 and 5-8 pm. Pastor Jim Davis will conduct services at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 am and interment will follow at Yellow Creek Cemetery where the US Marines and the Tri-State Veterans burial group will accord full military honors.
