William Smith

CHIPPEWA, Pa. - William "Smity" Smith, 94, of Chippewa Township, formerly of Darlington Twp. died Sunday, January 5, 2014 in Heritage Valley Beaver in Good Samaritan Hospice.

Born May 13, 1919 in Eastvale, PA was the son of the late Frederick and Amelia (Grenke) Smith. He was employed as a milkman for 24 years for Fruman Dairy and Country Belle Dairy.

He also worked as a foreman for B&W Tubular Works retiring in 1982. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Darlington; the Beaver Falls Turners and Beaver Falls Owls.

He served in the U.S. Army Military Police while stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Surviving are his daughter, Darlene G. Tate, Chippewa Twp.; his beloved grandson, Chadd A. Tate, Robinson Twp.; a sister-in-law, Betty Lindstrom; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Martha E. Smith; four brothers, Theodore, Frank E., Fred W. and Lester H. Smith; and a sister, Elizabeth Reynolds.

Friends will be received on Tuesday 6-8 PM and Wednesday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM in the Campbell's Chippewa Funeral Home, 2618 Darlington Road. There will be a funeral procession Thursday from the funeral home at 10:30 AM to the First United Presbyterian Church, 3385 Old Darlington Road, Darlington, PA 16115, for services at 11:00 AM with the Reverend C.F. Hoffman officiating.

Interment will follow in Glenview Cemetery, East Palestine, OH.

The family wishes to thank Rev. C. F. Hoffman for his many visits and Dr. Kalenak and his staff, Medic Rescue, Concordia nurses, doctors and nurses in the Emergency Room and CCU at Heritage Valley Beaver and the Good Samaritan Hospice nurses. Special thank-you to niece and nephew Betsey and Terry Uslenghi for their kindness and thoughtfulness during their uncle's illness.
