James Knight

Taylors, SC - James Harold Knight, 47, Monarch Place, formerly of East Palestine, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 at the Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, SC.

Jim was born April 21, 1966 in Salem, a son of Larry J. and Joann Guy Knight, and was a 1984 graduate of East Palestine High School.

He had earned an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Triangle Tech in Pittsburgh, and had moved to the Greenville area in 1995.

He was a construction project manager and had worked for several engineering firms including Global Performance, Fluor Daniel Corp., and Mustang Engineering Int. Jim had been involved in the project construction phase with BMW, General Motors, Honda Manufacturing, Boeing, and the Greenville County Schools. His work had required extensive travel throughout the United State and Europe, which he enjoyed.

Jim was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Browns, and college sports, especially Ohio State, West Virginia, and the South Carolina Gamecocks. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, and had attended the Daytona 500 for many years with his Dad. He enjoyed playing golf, especially at the annual Guy Family Reunion, and loved all kinds of music, and had attended numerous concerts through the years. Jim also liked to ride his motorcycle in the mountains of South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James Harold and Betty Knight, and J. Leo and Anna Guy.

Jim leaves his parents, Larry and Joann Knight, a sister, Rebecca Payne, and his brother-in-law, Scott Payne; as well as his loving niece and nephew, Hailey Alexandra and Christian Scott Payne, all of Hudson, OH.

His many aunts, uncles, and cousins will miss very much. Jim's friends, many in the East Palestine area will miss him as well. His closest companion was his dog, Tahoe, who traveled with him in his work assignments.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 31st at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, East Palestine. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the time of service.

His family has asked that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Habitat for Humanity or one's favorite animal rescue organization.

Arrangements were with the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home.
