It amazes me that the local newspapers made such a big deal about Democratic Party candidate for county commissioner Nathan Walker getting caught for peeing outside years ago. Nathan's mistake was even placed on the same level as Dan Bailey's inability to pay taxes.
Let's put things in perspective here. Walker peed outside. Bailey owes tens of thousands of dollars. Walker's mistake says nothing about his ability to help run the county or manage its finances. On the other hand Bailey's reluctance to pay his taxes tells us that he has trouble handling money.
There really shouldn't be an issue about which problem is a bigger deal. We are talking about millions in county money. Dan Bailey has a small store and sells used video games. He has proven that he can't responsibly handle his business dealings. There is no way we can trust him to handle the public's money.
Most people in this county pay their taxes in full and on time. To support someone for county commissioner who doesn't pay his taxes is a slap in the face to each and every one of us that works hard to pay our taxes.
Personally, I don't even understand what type of thought pattern lets someone seek public office while not paying their own taxes.
I realize that people struggle and it is hard sometimes but if you want to serve the public you have to prove that you can take care of your own matters. Dan Bailey hasn't come even close to doing that.
