I am absolutely outraged that Dan Bailey hasn't paid his taxes. How can someone run for office and claim to be an awesome business man but not pay their own taxes? It's absolutely nuts.
There are jobs out there that as part of the employment screening they do a credit check. These aren't jobs where you make decisions affecting a hundred thousand people or jobs dealing with millions of dollars. These are just regular jobs.
I know there are no real rules for running for office and that virtually anyone can run for office, but give me a break. We need standards. We need to know that there is some sort of check on who runs.
How can a guy run for office and say he is a good businessman and how he can bring jobs to the county when he can't even pay his own used video game store's sales taxes? So basically we have a guy who wants to say how to spend county money but won't even give the county the money he owes it.
Where is the public outrage? Why isn't the Democratic Party in Columbus or Lisbon saying we aren't like Dan Bailey? Is this the kind of candidate the Democratic Party wants on their banner? How did this guy even get the signatures to run? What Democrat would support somebody who thinks it is OK for someone to not pay his taxes and want to say how to spend the taxes we paid?
I'm curious what Democrat, especially Democrats now holding office, would sign the petition of a guy this unprepared to seek county office. Maybe we should check what politicians would support a guy to call the shots who doesn't see a need to pay taxes. Maybe the answers would surprise us. What does it say about those politicians? Does being a good manager of public money mean anything to them?
Let's face it. Mike Halleck's record as county commissioner is shoddy at best. The Democrats have had years to find a great candidate to run against him. Then they get Dan Bailey who doesn't pay taxes. What is up with that?
