CALCUTTA - St. Clair Township Travel and Tourism Bureau's 14th annual Memorial Day celebration on Sunday in Calcutta Square promises to be jammed packed with fun, food and fireworks for the whole family.
The day starts at 9:30 a.m. at Calcutta Community Park when the Tri-State Burial Group will perform the ceremonial flag raising.
The duck race at Calcutta Square will start at noon, followed by the firefighters' water battle at 1. The chalk art contest runs from 1-3 p.m. (bring your own chalk).
Musical entertainment at the Calcutta Square featured solo guitarist Dave Morgan at 1:30 p.m., country recording artist Zach Paxson at 3, the dance band Rumors at 4:30, and country music band Black Horse at 6/ Legends will round out the evening with classic hits from from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
A motorcycle show runs from 2-5 p.m., with awards presented in four classes: People's Choice, Judges' Choice, Riders' Choice and Best Chrome. Judging will take place at 5 p.m. There is no entry fee but donations will be accepted. For more information call 1-412-925-1060.
A car cruise runs 2-7 p.m. All kinds of cars are welcome and there is no entry fee, but donations are accepted. For more information call 330-382-1404.
Various food vendors will be set up. There also will be a 50/50 and a Chinese auction with items donated from many local businesses. All drawings will start at 7 p.m. Winners must be present for the 50/50 drawing but need not be present for the auction.
A fireworks display will top off the evening at 9:30 p.m. Fireworks will be staged on the hill adjacent to the Dunham's plaza. Music to coincide with the display will be broadcast on FM-106.3 The River.
"We are so thankful for our sponsors, the Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department, Shell Oil and River Valley Health Partners," said Debbie Koffel, tourism bureau executive director. "We would not be able to do this without them and our many other sponsors which are too numerous to name. It's a real community effort."
