Walter Emerson Watson, age 95 and one-half, of Hanoverton, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Salem Regional Medical Center.
Walt was born November 14, 1918 in Wellsville to Walter and Florence May (Thompson) Watson. Walt married Doris Eleanor McKarns on June 15, 1946 and she died December 4, 2004.
Walt lived all of his life in the Salineville area, moving to Hanoverton in 1954. He retired from Loudon Ford in December 1983 after 36 years.
He was a member of the Hanoverton Presbyterian Church, a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the 101st and the 82nd Division during World War II in Africa and Italy. He was a member of the Highlandtown Grange and active in various steam and gas engine clubs.
Surviving Walt are two daughters: Cynthia (Jim) Stoughton and Cheryl (David) Watson-Switzer of Hanoverton; three grandchildren: Melissa Sturgeon and her children Noah and MacKenzie, and Mark Grate and his children Shane, Mariah and Lloyd; and granddaughter Elizabeth Michael Serensky.
He also leaves two sisters, Grace Halter of Bridgeport, Texas, and Betty (Tim) Billie of Hillcrest, Ohio; one brother, Donald Watson of Mr. Vernon, Ohio and a sister in law, Margaret (Bette) Watson of Hanoverton.
Preceding him in death were three brothers: Jack, Harold and Robert.
Military honors will be provided by Salineville Post of V.F.W. Calling hours will be Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Hanoverton Presbyterian Church from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. The funeral will follow at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Tom Allmon officiating. Burial will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery.
