EAST LIVERPOOL - The city school board voted in special session Tuesday night to provide the upfront cost of 65 uniforms for the high school band, an issue which had been tabled twice.
Members accepted the proposal of the Band Boosters to transfer $27,313 into the band student activity account for the uniforms, with half to be reimbursed by the boosters.
Members Bob Estell and Scott Dieringer abstained from the voting after coming in late to the meeting.
A recommendation to purchase electronic math and reading curriculum materials and staff training from Curriculum Associates for $56,100 was tabled on a motion by board member Larry Walton, who said he had "quite a few questions" about the purchase.
The issue will be tabled until the board's regular meeting on June 9.
There was some question raised whether or not the electronic curriculum was needed for summer school, but Treasurer Todd Puster said that, while it was going to be used in tandem with summer school classes, those have been canceled by Superintendent James Herring, although there are plans to try and have some third grade intervention this summer.
Herring had announced at the last board meeting he had not been able to find enough teachers at that point and summer school might have to be canceled.
Principal Randy Taylor advised the board that summer school classes will still be held at the high school.
The board convened in executive session to discuss employment, with no action taken afterward.
