SALINEVILLE — Southern Local High School senior Kennedy Lewis has been chosen as the Salineville Kiwanis Student of the Month for September.

Lewis, the daughter of Chris and Nikki Lewis of Salineville, has demonstrated excellent academic performance at Southern Local by ranking first in her class with a 4.547 GPA. She was the 2023-24 Southern Local September Student Spotlight and also the Southern Local Student of the Year during her junior year, both of which she was nominated for by school teachers and staff. Currently, she is president of the senior class, vice president of student council and a member of the Blue Crew and Spanish Club. During her high school career, Lewis as earned 52 College Credit Plus credits from Eastern Gateway Community College and is currently enrolled in 12 credits with Kent State University.

She has also shown extraordinary prowess as an athlete and has received accolades in golf, basketball, softball, volleyball and bowling. Lewis set a school record by scoring a 45 on nine holes during her freshman year in golf. During her sophomore year, she earned the Top Performer Award, First Team EOAC, finished fifth, was one place from qualifying for districts out of 81 sectional and placed fifth at the EOAC Invitational. Her junior year included placing second at the Mahoning County open and earning First Team EOAC. In basketball, she earned awards such as Offensive Player of the Year, the Warrior Award, Honorable Mention All EOAC and Second Team All EOAC as a freshman. Lewis further earned softball honors including First Team All EOAC and the Golden Bat Award in ninth grade; First Team OVAC, First Team EOAC and All YSN Softball Team as a sophomore; and First Team EOAC, Second Team OVAC and the Indian Award as a junior. During her volleyball career, she received the Captain’s Award, VB Coaches Underclassman Award, VB Coaches All District Honorable Mention and the Tomahawk Award. Additionally, she has received Honorable Mention All TMC League and the Indian Award in bowling.

Upon graduation, Lewis plans to attend college and pursue a civil engineering degree.
