CCBDD recognizes retiring teacher

LISBON — The Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities (CCBDD) recognized Tena Stollar for her 24 years of service as a teacher at the Robert Bycroft School during Wednesday’s CCBDD board meeting.

The board members and Superintendent Bill Devon congratulated Stollar on her retirement, wished her well and celebrated with her after the meeting with cupcakes.

Devon said staff in-service will be held Aug. 18 and 19 and would probably be held at the Job and Family Services office.

The DD Awareness Night with the Youngstown Phantoms held on April 5 at the Covelli Center in Youngstown went well and had a good turnout. The Comets prevailed again in the annual client/staff basketball game held on March 27 at the Lisbon High School gym. The CCBDD sponsored Autism Awareness Day will be held at Beaver Local School, behind the school, on April 26 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Board members approved the financial report and bills as presented to them.

Additional approvals granted by the board include to create up to three part-time service and support administrator (SSA) positions to work 20 to 24 hours per week; to send Susan Hertel to Leadership Columbiana County in the fall at a cost of $1,200; to support Professional Advocates Resources (PAR) at a fee of $2,500; the Early Intervention Parent Handbook as submitted; a revised student incident report/follow up for the Robert Bycroft School as submitted; to open negotiations with Robert Bycroft Education Association after June 1; to officially and financially join the Abilities United Foundation of the Mahoning Valley; and the Board Policy defining the use of Robert Bycroft School during summer recess as submitted.

The board is considering seeking donations from businesses to send several members to attend a national training convention which has a May deadline.
