Rebels earn repeat trip to Dallas
Crestview Middle School Robotics team will once again compete at world championships
COLUMBIANA — The Crestview Middle School Robotics team will once again compete at the world competition.
District Superintendent Dan Hill was happy to announce that this marks the second year the middle school has made it to the world competition.
The VEX Robotics World Championship is scheduled for May 6-14 in Dallas, Texas.
Competitors participate in a variety of games and research projects and are judged based on the skill of their constructed robots in several challenges.
In other matters, the district honored Doris Buzzard and Kathryn Vrabel for their service to the district during the regular board of education meeting this month.
Vrabel’s retirement resignation was approved by the board during the meeting. She will retire as high school teacher at the end of the this school year.
The board also approved the retirement resignation of high school teacher Mark Fabian, effective at the end of this school year. Fabian was also approved to be rehired in the same position.
The board also approved three year limited administrative contracts and fringe benefit packages for Daniel Brothers, Transportation Mechanic; Kimberly Gilbert, Director of Special Education; Allison Lemaster, Elementary Principal; Darlene Peddicord, Administrative Assistant; and Jamiel Radman, Maintenance Supervisor.
A supplemental contract was also approved for Randi Kubas as Robotics Scorekeeper, and a limited one year contract was approved for Benjamin Kotas as five hour bus driver.
Other items approved were:
— The elementary school field trips for the Preschool to Living Treasures on May 5.
— Samuel Campbell and Melissa Fieldhouse as substitute custodians.
— Adopting a resolution proclaiming May 2 as School Lunch Hero Day.
— Adopting a resolution proclaiming the week of May 5-9 as Teacher Appreciation Week.
— The resignation of Matthew Beatty as bus driver.
— A memorandum of understanding with OAPSE which is an update to the existing contract. The board also approved an executive session to discuss negations with the unions. No action was taken.
The next meeting was set for 5 p.m. May 14.
