Utica Shale Career Day

Students can meet with energy officials to learn about work prospects during the Utica Shale Academy’s Career Day on April 30. Utica Shale Academy had postponed the event from February due to inclement weather and activities run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. on the first floor of the Williams Collaboration Center. More than a half-dozen energy companies and organizations will be on hand to discuss job prospects within their field. Organizer Ashley Canann, transition specialist at USA, said Career Day gives students a chance to meet with representatives from area trades to learn what they are seeking among the workforce. The event is open to grades 10-12 and among the companies and organizations to be in attendance are the Ohio Oil and Gas Association, Ohio Natural Energy Institute (ONEi), American Petroleum Institute (API) Ohio, MPLX, Dominion/Enbridge Inc., Encino Energy, Williams Energy and Ascent Resources. Canann said the day will include three segments: student spotlighting their skills to company representatives, company presentations and mock interviews. She added that the event prepares students for a career in the trades, but also to learn more about the local companies and how to become successfully employed. “Our students are already learning at Utica the physical skills needed to get a job, but we wanted to support our students even further by teaching them soft skills needed for employment and give them an opportunity to learn more from actual companies in our area.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
