WINONA - The Winona Ruritan Club held its August meeting at the Winona Friends Church Aug. 25.
Vice President Tom Richey called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. Lee Stamp and Tom Richey led the club in the singing of "America."
Homer Althouse gave the invocation. The caterer served a meal of tossed vegetable salad, pulled chicken with green peppers and onions rolled into a large burrito baked in BBQ sauce with sour cream topping on the side, corn chowder and spanish rice, and for dessert large chocolate brownies covered in powdered sugar.
Secretary Elmer Lee Stamp called the roll of members with just 15 being present. Stamp then read the minutes of the July meeting and the minutes of the August board of directors meeting. There were no changes and they stood approved as read.
Treasurer Bob Doyle Sr. gave his July report and there were no questions and it stood approved as given.
The club had one birthday for the month of August - Rob Doyle Jr. He was not present so there was no singing this month.
Tom Richey asked Stamp to give the "unfinished business." The club had an anonymous person mention that they might like to donate a long gun to the club for to raffle off. That did not transpire. The club will be selling just 100 tickets for $20 each for a Henry lever action All Weather Rifle in 45/70 cal. Drawing will be at the club's meeting on Oct. 27.
The club also needs a person or two for a nominating committee for Officers and Directors for 2027. Election for the 2027 Officers and Directors will be at the Oct. 27 meeting.
Richey asked Stamp to help with the "new" business. The club was fortunate enough to receive a 4-H hog as a donation for sausage for its upcoming "All-You-Can-Eat" Pancake & Sausage Breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 10. The donor said his family would only eat a few cuts of the meat and gave the club the remaining. Horst Meats (Rob Donaldson) donated the processing.
The club's "Whole Hog" Sausage will remain at $5 per pound this fall. Tickets and posters for
the upcoming breakfast were passed out to members. The plan is to set up the cooking trailer, move in the kitchen supplies and set-up the tables on Thursday, Oct. 8, starting at 9 a.m. Stamp will take inventory next week and make a shopping list of needed items. The club will order the propane gas from Eichler's.
Richey said the November and December meetings come early. Nov. 17 is the Veterans Recognition dinner, and this year the club will have guest speaker Kenneth Hammontree portray "General Ike Eisenhower" and tell about the World War II involvement of the auto and rubber industries. The
December meeting is on Tuesday, Dec. 15, and the club has reached out to a group for entertainment.
Richey asked if there was other business to come before the club, and there was none.
Everyone rose and pledged allegiance to the flag of the United States.
