Patrick M. ‘Pat’ McNicol

1954-2024

WELLSVILLE — Patrick M. “Pat” McNicol, 70, of Wellsville, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at his home.

He was born August 16, 1954, in East Liverpool, the son of the late Thomas J. and Elizabeth A. (Lowary) McNicol. He was also preceded in death by his faithful canine companion, Gypsy.

Pat graduated from Wellsville High School in 1972 and from THE Ohio State University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree. Pat moved to Columbus in 1972 when he started his college education, and he held numerous professional jobs over the years. He was previously employed as an unemployment claims representative at Gates McDonald Insurance Company and as an insurance fraud investigator for Nationwide Insurance Company. He came back to his hometown of Wellsville in 2009 and lived in his family home on Riverside Avenue. This is when Pat found the love of his life, Barbara Nightingale, and thoroughly enjoyed the time they spent together over the last thirteen years. He was most recently employed as a permanent substitute teacher in the Wellsville Local School District where he formed relationships with a lot of the students. He supported them in the classroom and also on the fields or courts where he could be found at many of the sporting events for the high school. Pat was an avid fan of THE Ohio State Buckeyes, enjoyed reading, and was a political and history buff. He was also a member of the Wellsville Elks Lodge 1040.

Survivors include three brothers: Cristopher (Judy) McNicol of Wellsville, Tim (Maria) McNicol of Wellsville, and Scott (Jennifer) McNicol of Powell, OH; as well as his nieces and nephews: William McNicol of Cleveland, Jenna and Emily McNicol of Wellsville, Jamie (Brad) Mitchell and their son, Jacob, of Wellsville, and Nicholas McNicol of Powell. Also surviving is his soulmate, Barbara Nightingale of Wellsville.

The funeral service will be held at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Blakeley of the Wellsville First Christian Church officiating.

Family and friends may call from 3:00 – 6:30 pm on Tuesday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 631 Main Street in Wellsville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Pat’s name to the Wellsville Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, PO Box 629, Wellsville, OH 43968.
