United beats the cold and Heartland

HANOVERTON — United beat the weather on a chilly Tuesday.
The Eagles scored at least three runs in every inning — nine different Eagles scored — to beat Heartland Christian, 18-1, in five innings.
Chloe Angelo had three hits, including a triple, with three runs and two RBIs. Josie Wargo hit a home run with four RBIs and four runs scored. Grace Coffee also went 2-for-2 and scored two runs.
Peyten Kekel scored three runs and Allyson Lacey walked four times and scored two runs. Callie Koons and Kekel both drove in two runs.
Jillian Dietrich was the winning pitcher, scattering three hits with six strikeouts and no walks in four innings. Coffee pitched the final inning, striking out two and walking two.
The Eagles improve to 10-1 on the season.
Gabby McDowell scored Heartland’s run. Natalie Barrow, Calleigh Shodd and Emily McDowell had hits for the Lions.
Emily McDowell was the losing pitcher as allowed seven runs, five earned, with no strikeouts and three walks in one-plus innings.
United hosts East Palestine on Thursday.
Heartland is 2-3.

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana’s softball team had no trouble in doubleheader sweep of East Palestine on Tuesday.
The Clippers won the first game 14-0 in four innings. Caitlynn Pleska had a home run, single and four RBIs for the winners. Alivia Bell had a home run, single and six RBIs. Addison Brode also hit a home run.
Brode was the winning pitcher with nine strikeouts and no walks.
Kennedy Andre was the winning pitcher with two strikeouts and five walks in three innings.
Columbiana won the second game 11-6 in five innings. Pleska had a double with two RBIs. Alivia Bell had two doubles. Landry Smith had two hits and two RBIs. Peyton Stoy was the winning pitcher with three strikeouts and five walks.
Alivia Magness was the losing pitcher with a strikeout and four walks.
Taylor Foster had two hits for the Bulldogs.
Columbiana is 9-5 and 5-0 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.
The Clippers host Leetonia today.
East Palestine (1-4, 0-3) and is at Lisbon on Monday.

WELLSVILLE — Makayla Landess had went 3-for-3 and was the winning pitcher as Wellsville clipped East Liverpool, 9-7, Tuesday.
Rylee Brown was 2-for-3 as the Tigers improved to 5-2 on the season.
Landess had 11 strikeouts with four walks in seven innings.
Addie Jones had a inside-the-park home run in the seventh inning and two RBIs for the Potters. Kylee Evans and Chloe Galeoti had doubles.
Cate Davis took the loss with nine strikeouts and three walks.
East Liverpool (1-8) hosts Harrison Central today.
Wellsville visits East Palestine at 4 p.m. today for a pair of five-inning games.

TORONTO –Beaver Local exploded for 10 runs in the second inning to dump Toronto 17-1 in five innings on Tuesday.
Beaver Local (8-2) was the home team despite the game being played at Toronto.
Ally Wright, Megan Henrich, Addie Thurik and Brenna Jones had doubles for the winners. Henrich got the win in the circle with four strikeouts and no walks in three innings.
Beaver Local is at Indian Creek today.

Oak Glen doubleheader
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Oak Glen picked up two wins on its first day of a Myrtle Beach trip on Tuesday at the Ripken Experience.
The Bears tallied a 6-2 win over the Lakewood Gators of Sumter, South Carolina. Addie Smith had a home run for the winners, while Riley Bruce had a single and double. Mattie Carney added two hits and an RBI.
Carney was also the winning pitcher with 12 strikeouts and a walk.
Against Marcellus (New York), Carney had a home run and three RBIs in the Golden Bears’ 11-3 win. Maddie Murray added two hits and an RBI.
Danica Holden got the win with a strikeout and no walks in five innings.
Oak Glen is 16-6 and will play Moore Catholic of Staten Island, New York and Cicero-North of Syracuse, New York today.
